MD fellowships

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards MD fellowships of up to 18 months to outstanding medical students to pursue ambitious, experimental projects in basic biomedical research worldwide. Fellowship holders must study human medicine in Germany and initially change cities and institutions for at least 10 to maximum 12 consecutive months to work in an internationally renowned laboratory. Approximately 95 % of fellows conduct their research abroad, around 80 % of them in the USA.

On top of the monthly stipend, we offer our fellows seminars, travel allowances, individual and personal support, and a worldwide network of fellows and alumni.

Purpose

MD fellowships enable students of human medicine to perform excellent basic research and thus build bridges between basic research and the clinic.
