112th ITC Organoids: modelling development and disease in 3D culture

The possibility to recapitulate organogenesis in 3D culture has opened up exciting new avenues for the investigation of developmental processes and disease. Combined with iPS cell technology, human tissues can be generated that are genetically identical with individual patients allowing for the analysis of developmental abnormalities and diseases in a human context. Together with recently developed genome editing methods, the contributions of individual DNA alterations to the disease phenotype can now be studied at unprecedented detail.

This conference will bring together scientists from various fields including developmental and stem-cell biology, bio-engineering and clinical research. The goal is to identify synergies and establish collaborative efforts and hopefully push the current limits of organoid technology.
