Extensions of PhD Fellowships

PhD fellowships of the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds are awarded for 24 months and can be extended once for a maximum of 12 months. However, if the fellow began work on his/her project before taking up the fellowship, that period will be deducted from the maximum extension period.

Applications for extension are considered by the foundation's Board of Trustees and may be submitted to the foundation by 15 January, 15 May and 15 September of each year. A decision as to whether the extension can be granted is made approximately 6 weeks later (i.e. at the upcoming Board meeting).
