About the Journal

B.I.F. FUTURA is the international journal of the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (B.I.F.), a public foundation for the promotion of basic research in medicine. Its paper copy is published by the Hippokrates Verlag, MVS Medizinverlage Stuttgart GmbH & Co. KG in Stuttgart, Germany

Since 1986, B.I.F. FUTURA has published reviews and discourses on biomedical research, as well as contributions on the social and political framework of the science. The first and foremost task of B.I.F. FUTURA, however, is to provide information on the work of the Foundation, i.e. to report on the research supported by B.I.F. in a form that is both readable to those in the field and understandable to scientists outside the immediate discipline.

B.I.F. FUTURA is an open-access journal distributed under the terms of the “Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities”, which permits free, irrevocable and universal right on access to these contributions and allows the work to be used, reproduced, or disseminated in digital form, provided the original author or copyright holder and source are credited. Opinions expressed in B.I.F. FUTURA may not automatically be assumed to be the official standpoint of the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds. This is particularly the case when the article is accompanied by the name of the author(s).

B.I.F. FUTURA is published -- in print and part of it as online edition -- four times a year. It is distributed free of charge to all those involved or interested in the Foundation, i.e. to all current and former B.I.F. fellowship holders and their supervisors, to peers and all major libraries worldwide, to the donors and other members of the Boehringer Ingelheim group and to all individuals and institutions interested in biomedical research. Requests for a print copy should be directed to the Secretariat of the Foundation.
