The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds, a public foundation subject to German civil law and approved by the District Government of Rheinhessen/Pfalz, Germany, on February 1983, is an independent, non-profit-making institution dedicated to the promotion of basic research in medicine. The Foundation is registered in Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany.
Representatives and Organs of the Foundation The Board of Trustees of the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds decides on all matters of the Foundation of fundamental significance. The members of the Board of Trustees are Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Barner, Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH, Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany; Professor Dr. Peter Herrlich, Research Centre Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Germany; Professor Dr. Ruth Lehmann, New York University, New York, NY, USA; Professor Dr. U. Benjamin Kaupp, Centre of Advanced European Studies and Research, Bonn, Germany; Dr. Jan-Michael Peters, Research Institute of Molecular Pathology, Vienna, Austria; Professor Dr. Hidde Ploegh, Harvard Medical School Boston, MA, USA; Professor Dr. Tilman Sauerbruch, University Bonn, Bonn, Germany; Dr. Ingrid Ohlert, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bonn, Germany (permanent guest). At least two members of the Executive Committee, consisting of three members of the Board of Trustees (Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Barner, Professor Dr. Peter Herrlich, Dr. Jan-Michael Peters) represent the Foundation in legal and non-legal matters. The Managing Director, Dr. Claudia Walther, runs the regular business of the Foundation.
